In an effort to counter the ever-increasing Internet data explosion, Sun Microsystems Inc. Monday introduced an
enterprise-class tool that addresses tape back-up requirements.

The Sun (SUNW) StorEdge L700 tape library is designed to enable customers in data-intensive environments to access
stored data within seconds. In addition, the high-capacity Sun StorEdge
L700 tape library works to backup 3.5 TB of data in less than eight
hours, the firm said.

The new Sun StorEdge L700 tape library is now shipping. An entry-level
configuration is list priced at $194,000. A full configuration is list
priced at $625,000.

“As a result of the Internet data explosion, backup windows are shrinking
and approaching zero,” said Raj Das, director of product marketing for Sun
Network Storage. “The Sun StorEdge L700 tape library is an ideal solution
with industrial-strength performance that brings backup from offline speed
to online speed, and makes stored data accessible within a matter of seconds.”
