[Rome] Telecom Italia has announced the establishment of an Information Technology Services alliance division, headed by Gilberto Ricci. The unit, formed through a series of business partnerships, will increase Telecom Italia’s share of the growing, European business-to-business market, according to senior management.

The new business unit comprises 42 companies, including Finsiel, a major group in the IT and consulting services sector, and Sogei, which handles technological services for the Italian Minister of Finance, with a total of 12,300 employees and annual billings, based on 1999 figures, or $2.1 billion.

Information Technology Services is divided into six sectors: telecommunications, under the direction of Fabrizio Gimona; operational services; marketing services; professional web services; financial services; and technology consultation.
