[Mississauga, CANADA] – The Shopping Channel has joined wireless commerce through a position on the Rogers AT&T Wireless Mobitex network. The content and functionality of its e-commerce site has been transformed into wireless applications.
The Shopping Channel has developed enhanced wireless content for mmm.tsc.ca that provides the Rogers AT&T Go.Web browser with a unique information channel. The Shopping Channel’s wireless applications was designed to allow maximum functionality on Blackberry wireless handheld devices.
Initial functionality includes wireless, a program guide which gives users access to interactive contests, TSC News and Last Minute Gifts, and a rotating selection of five items which can be purchased on the go.
The strategy is to see additional functionality phased in over the next year to include wireless versions of all e-commerce, personalization and customer service modules.
OceanLake Commerce, an e-commerce and wireless solutions provider developed the wireless technology platform for the new application.
The Shopping Channel is a subsidiary of Rogers Media Inc., a division of Rogers Communications Inc. which operates three businesses: Rogers Broadcasting, Rogers Publishing and Rogers New Media. Rogers New Media includes Internet properties such as Quicken.ca, Electric Library Canada, and Excite.ca.
Rogers Wireless Inc. operates under the brand name Rogers AT&T Wireless and is Canada’s largest wireless communications service provider, with over 2.7 million customers and offices in Canadian cities from coast to coast. Rogers AT&T Wireless is wholly owned and operated by Rogers Wireless Communications Inc., which is 51% owned by Rogers Communications and 33.3% owned equally by AT&T Corp. and British Telecommunications plc.
