Less than one week after merging with Whittman-Hart to create a $14 billion
business e-commerce firm, USWeb/CKS Thursday found
another partner, this time to deliver wireless applications.
The company will work with networking firm 3Com Corp. (COMS)
to develop, market and deliver wireless applications for the mobile
workplace and converged voice, video and data tools.
3Com will contribute up to $100 million in a combination of funded
development and an equity investment in USWeb/CKS (USWB). 3Com also has
the option of purchasing up to $40 million of USWeb/CKS stock.
The two companies will develop and showcase their co-developed wireless
tools in labs USWeb/CKS calls “Centers of
Excellence.” The first product is set to be ready by the second half of next
year.
“Clients are faced with the opportunity to extend their brands and business
relationships to people — anywhere, anytime,” said Robert Shaw,
CEO, USWeb/CKS. “This alliance marks our commitment to help our clients take
advantage of technological innovations and succeed in the
digital economy.”
USWeb/CKS Monday merged with Whittman-Hart, creating an e-commerce firm
valued at approximately $14 billion. It will work with new and established
companies to make the most of companies’ e-commerce services. The merger is
expected to close in April.
