Bothell, Wash.-based storage area networking (SAN) solutions provider Vixel Corp. forged an OEM agreement with Avid Technology Inc. Tuesday, clearing the way for the integration of Vixel’s 9000 Series 2 Gigabit per second (2 Gb/s) Fibre Channel Switches with Avid’s non-linear video and audio editing systems.

Avid’s products are used to make television and news shows, commercials, music videos and CDs, corporate/industrial productions and major motion pictures.

“By offering 2 Gb/s SAN-based solutions, Avid will be providing its customers one of the most powerful audio/visual editing systems available — one that enables in-line editing of uncompressed HDTV files,” said Claude Lorenson, director of product marketing for Vixel. “We believe this announcement signifies the first major step towards the adoption of 2 Gb/s SANs by the audio/visual community.”
