VoIP Leader Skype Snags Qik

Most of the news coming out of the annual Consumer Electronics Show turns on new whiz-bang gadgets and the emerging technologies that figure to shape the tech landscape of the coming year and beyond.

But VoIP provider Skype bucked that trend, choosing the show as its venue for announcing the acquisition of Qik, a privately held startup specializing in mobile video software. VoIP Planet has the story.


LAS VEGAS — Skype today announced the acquisition of Qik, a provider of mobile video software applications for smartphones and tablet PCs.

Financial terms of the deal, which was announced during the Consumer Electronics Show, were not disclosed. The merger is expected to close by month’s end.
