WebCrawler Adds Channels, Upgrades Simple Search

Excite announced today that it added two channels to its WebCrawler service in an effort to bulk up its home and family-oriented content, and delivered an enhanced version of its Simple Search tool.

The Kids & Family Channel is designed to provide children and parents with a wide variety of activities, entertainment and educational tips, the firm said. Highlights include Children’s Television Workshop (CTW) Online’s Family Workshop area, and departments such as Babies, Parents, Teens and Grandparents.

The channel also includes a Web site guide, the Toolbox, which is filled with guides for baby names, due date calendars for expectant mothers, recipe finders for the entire family, and chat rooms for home and family discussions.

The new Home & Real Estate Channel is designed to supply home buyers and owners
with information and tips on buying, refinancing, renting and remodeling. Excite said it gives users the ability to research new and
potential neighborhoods, features a toolbox for calculating the cost of living and links to online credit reports and mortgage rates, and provides potential home buyers with access to a comprehensive database of more than a million properties for sale in the United States.

Today’s launch of the Kids & Family Channel and the Home & Real Estate
Channel now brings the number of channels WebCrawler offers to 18.

Webcrawler also announced today the launch of its redesigned Simple Search, a tool designed to list matches for a user’s desired search topic in three distinct categories; directory results, Web results and news stories.
Additionally, it also provides users with a shortcuts area, listing links
to online purchase opportunities, product and service reviews, and other
information.
