Nineteen companies received Software Marketing Awards in Software
Marketing Journal’s first annual competition for achievement in
marketing excellence in the business-to-business software industry.
Applications provider PeopleSoft Inc. won the award for best overall company
marketing and Chasm Group founder Geoffrey Moore was named Marketing
Visionary of the Year.
Held at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, CO, the Software Marketing Awards
ceremony was hosted by Mitchell Kertzman, chairman of the board and CEO of
Sybase Inc.
Several companies took home multiple awards. Besides winning top prize for
best company marketing, PeopleSoft garnered honors for best annual report and
best user conference strategy and collateral.
Adobe Systems earned awards for best Web ad campaign as well as best Web
site, and J. D. Edwards won top prize for best Web marketing program and
best print collateral. Lotus Development Corp. and Lotus Communications
also took home two awards, winning in the categories of best product print
ad and campaign as well as best product packaging.
“The first year of the Software Marketing Awards attracted some fierce
competition–picking the winners was not easy,” said Nadine Kawalek,
president and CEO of Kawalek Corporation and publisher of Software Marketing
Journal. “Both lesser-known and well-known companies won awards,
demonstrating how far software marketing has come in terms of developing
the baseline expertise of practitioners.”
