Deja News E-Mail Service Employs Spam Filter

May 1, 1998
1 minute read

Internet discussion group Web site Deja News rolled out a new spam filtering e-mail service.

The free service is a component of My Deja News, a personalized service in
which users can customize discussion groups and other
content.

Advertising Age said spam is an issue for Deja
News because direct marketers who send out unsolicited e-mails have been known
to harvest names from online discussion groups, with software programs that
comb the Web looking for e-mail addresses.
