Lycos Inc., which already sponsors a race car, said that it will be the title sponsor of the NASCAR Busch Grand National series race scheduled for Sunday, June 14 at Pikes Peak International Raceway.
The “LYCOS.COM 250” will be televised on ESPN beginning at 4 p.m. Eastern
Standard Time. Lycos will also be represented on the track by the #17 Lycos
Chevrolet driven by Matt Kenseth.
NASCAR has reams of data proving race fan loyalty to sponsors and the move is
a clear indication that the promotion of Web sites is moving into the
mainstream.
“We are extremely pleased to extend Team Lycos’ success on the racetrack with
a sponsorship of a NASCAR Busch Grand National event at one of the most scenic
tracks in motorsports,” said Jim Hoenscheid, promotions director for Lycos.
“Lycos began our involvement in NASCAR with Matt Kenseth and Reiser
Enterprises in February. The positive response we’ve received from racing fans
has been tremendous. More and more race fans are turning to Lycos 7
Sponsorship of the LYCOS.COM 250 allows us to thank racing fans and educate
new users on what is available on the Web and the products and services Lycos
offers.”
Lycos will have product demonstrations at the race, offering fans an
opportunity to become a Lycos member. A free Lycos Online CD-ROM providing
fans access to the Internet and Lycos and autograph sessions with the drivers
will also be available.
Lycos offers a special Racing Guide dedicated to motorsports and Team Lycos on its site.
Team Lycos is owned and managed by Reiser Enterprises of Dover, NC. The #17
team Lycos Chevrolet Monte Carlo is driven by 26-year-old Kenseth, a native of
Cambridge, WS, who is currently second in the Busch Grand National
championship points race.
