Lycos to Sponsor NASCAR Busch Grand National Race

When it comes to sponsorship, there’s a saying in the world of professional auto racing: Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday. And Lycos apparently got the message.

Lycos, which already sponsors a race car, signed on as title sponsor for the
July 25th South Boston 300 NASCAR Busch Grand National Series race in
Virginia. Spending
was not disclosed.

Chesapeake Motorsports Development Corp. (CMDC), the Maryland based company
developing a 60,000-seat motorsports entertainment facility combining auto
racing and themed retail, also said that Valleydale Foods
signed on as presenting sponsor.

The event will be officially known as the Lycos.Com 300 presented by
Valleydale Foods and will be televised nationally by The Nashville Network
(TNN). The Motor Racing Network (MRN) will handle the national radio
broadcast.

“Everyone at CMDC is proud to
have Lycos and Valleydale Foods as sponsors in South Boston,” said
Christopher Lencheski, CMDC General Manager. “The South Boston
Speedway is steeped in NASCAR tradition. Our commitment to
assisting South Boston Speedway is paramount as we look forward to our own
facility opening in the Baltimore/Washington marketplace in the near future.”

“Lycos has shown in quick order their expertise in motorsports marketing and
has developed a top notch racing program (by sponsoring) NASCAR Busch Grand
National points leader Matt Kenseth.,” Lencheski added.
