StarMedia, Netscape to Launch Internet Guide for Latin America

Jun 4, 1998

StarMedia Network and Netscape said they plan a free, ad-backed Internet guide service for Latin America.

The service, called Netscape Guide by StarMedia, is slated for launch in both
Spanish and Portuguese by early August. The Guide will provide viewers with a
selection of Web sites of interest to Latin American users, organized in eight
sections covering Business, Computers, Entertainment, Finance, News, Sports,
Travel and Shopping.

Netscape Guide by StarMedia will be one of the core services available as part
of Netscape’s new Latin American channels on its Netcenter Web site. There
will also be a StarMedia Newsticker that visitors can click on to go directly
to StarMedia Network’s general news areas.

The exclusive multi-million dollar two-year agreement (financial specifics
were not disclosed) means that all Netscape Spanish and Portuguese browsers
will be distributed with a premium bookmark to StarMedia located on the
browser’s toolbar. StarMedia Network will promote Netscape’s market-leading
browser software to its users and will also place banner advertisements on the
Network for a variety of Netscape tools and services.
