Tech companies are increasingly working together on partnerships, alliances and other cooperative ventures designed to help their products work more effectively with each other and reduce complexity for their customers.
As ServerWatch reports, the latest partnership is between Citrix and Novell which is an effort to help manage virtual servers.
Citrix Systems and Novell this week said they will collaborate on interoperability and assessment tools to reduce the costs and complexity of managing multiple virtual servers running on both Linux and Windows operating systems.
Under the new partnership, Novell (NASDAQ: NOVL) has certified its SUSE Linux Enterprise Server as a “perfect guest” running on Citrix’ (NASDAQ: CTXS) XenServer virtualization suite, making it the only Linux operating system that has also been optimized for major hypervisors developed by the likes of Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT), VMware (NYSE: VMW) and Oracle (NASDAQ: ORCL).
Company officials said that more than 4,500 enterprise applications certified as “Novell ready” for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server are now “Citrix ready” community-verified when running in a SUSE Linux Enterprise Server guest virtual machine on XenServer.
“Our partnership with Citrix gives our many joint customers and partners a better way to manage their virtual infrastructures,” Joe Wagner, Novell’s general manager of global alliances, said in a statement. “We are providing a deeper and better integrated set of enterprise-class solutions that provide the tools to make intelligent decisions on data center virtualization, and the world-class infrastructure to run high-performance virtual environments.”
