Cordant Inc., which develops enterprise instant-messaging (IM) infrastructure, said it has acquired the IP assets of IMfuse Inc., an Alexandria, Va.-based developer of enterprise IM applications.
The deal’s financial details were not immediately available. Both companies are privately held.
The buy will “accelerate the development of key products that will further extend (Cordant’s) competitive advantage, officials said in a statement.
“This acquisition will enable Cordant to accelerate development of its enterprise platform for instant messaging,” said Sonu Aggarwal, Cordant chief executive officer (CEO). He also said IMfuse’s IMfusion, which provides compatibility with America Online’s AOL Instant Messaging (AIM) network and the Jabber platform, and the company’s IM application toolkit will “directly enhance Cordant’s upcoming offerings, including the IMConnect component of its Application Server platform.”
“Together we plan to develop the potential of Instant Messaging to enhance enterprise productivity,” said Jesse Koontz, IMfuse co-founder & chief technology officer (CTO). Koontz has joined Cordant as CTO under the terms of acquisition.
Cordant last month rolled out its new IM server — the foundation for a series of products that will help enterprises use IM for their customer communications.
Bellevue, Wash.-based Cordant introduced its Enterprise Server as part of an overall strategy of helping companies and organizations better communicate with their clients and patrons. The software runs only on Windows 2000 Server, a company spokesperson said in an interview at the time.
IMScribe features a three-tiered scalable architecture designed for production IM environments and servers, and is particularly suitable for global deployments. IMScribe has been designed in conjunction with enterprise customers across several industries, and has undergone beta testing at more than 10 Fortune 500 organizations, Cordant said.
Three other Enterprise Server-based products are in the offing: IMWatch, IMConnect, IMTransact. Details were not immediately available on those products. Each product will have a beta-testing period before it is rolled out to the enterprise market.
