Empower Interactive Group, a provider of dedicated application messaging infrastructure software solutions, has launched its Application Messaging infrastructure, or Application Messaging Service Center (ASMC), at CommunicAsia 2002, held in Singapore from June 18-21, to enable mobile operators to cope with the upsurge in demand for application messaging.
This move also demonstrates Empower Interactive’s commitment to the promising Asia Pacific markets, having recently opened its regional headquarters in Singapore in April 2002 and signing a broad range of agreements with partners such as Ericsson and Hewlett Packard across the region.
According to Merrill Lynch, the application messaging segment is expanding at a rate in excess of 200 percent year-on-year globally, and will account for more than half of all wireless messaging service (SMS) traffic by 2005.
AMSC will be especially relevant in Asia Pacific. According to the Yankee Group, China alone is projected to handle 400 billion messages a year by 2005, double the present global volume, making the Asian messaging market the largest in the world. Much of this growth will come from man-to-machine messaging traffic as applications and content are increasingly integrated with wireless messaging.
Said Empower Interactive’s chairman and chief executive, Richard Shearer: “There is a staggering amount of untapped potential in the Asian messaging market. Asians are already among the world’s biggest users of messaging services, and we foresee this growing exponentially in the coming years.”
Key features of the AMSC include short message peer-to-peer (SMPP) compliance, broadcast messaging and its ability to work across 2G, 2.5G and 3G networks.
The AMSC, capable of processing more than 1,000 application messages per second, is also easily managed through a simple ‘point and click’ interface, offering greater benefits for Asian operators looking for a cost-effective, easily integrated application messaging system.
