AirMagnet Upgrades

Mountain View, CA-based AirMagnet‘s Wireless LAN Handheld Analyzer product for running on Pocket PC 2002-based PDAs has been released with version 1.5. The new version now supports the 802.1X security standard, more VPN protocols, and works with Cisco Aironet AIR-LMC352 client adapter cards. The previous version, 1.2 (which we recently reviewed) only worked with the companies own AirMagnet card.

AirMagnet will now authenticate LEAP-based networks as well as MD5, TLS, TTLS authenticated networks for troubleshooting, site surveys and performance checks. The AirWISE engine in the product alerts IT to rogue WLANs not using the established authentication and VPN methods. VPN protocols include IPSec, PPTP, L2TP, and SSH.

AirMagent will sell the new version with Cisco’s Aironet AIR-PCM352 802.11b Adapter Card for $2,495. For $2,695 you can jump to the AirMagnet Handheld Pro version, which includes a removable 2.2 dBi omni-directional antenna. Neither include the Pocket PC unit to run it on — for that you pay $3,995 for the AirMagnet Handheld Pak (to get an HP/Compaq iPaq 3850 Pocket PC with 64MB RAM with a 64K color screen).
