Intersil Corporation of Irvine, CA, yesterday announced that BroMax Communications has selected Intersil’s PRISM Indigo 5 GHz WLAN chip set as the silicon solution for the BroMax FreePort 802.11a compliant wireless LAN PC card.

The FreePort card will support most popular operating systems, according to the companies: Windows 95/98/2000/NT 4.0/ME/XP and Linux.

Intersil’s PRISM Indigo WLAN chip set is currently sampling with full production slated for the third quarter, the company said. Intersil stated that it hopes that its PRISM-based 5 GHz products will complement existing Wi-Fi implementations.

BroMax’s product family includes products such as PCMCIA, PCI and Compact Flash cards, as well as USB and Ethernet adapters, and wireless access point (AP) products, such as workgroup bridges, residential APs and integrated AP/Switches.

Headquartered in Taiwan’s Silicon Valley, BroMax serves ODM/OEM businesses.
