Global Remote Access Network Company to Utilize Wayport 802.11b Access Points in Hotels, Airports

Last week, Wayport, Inc. and iPass, Inc. announced that they have teamed to provide iPass customers with 802.11b WLAN access at Wayport-enabled locations throughout the United States.

iPass maintains a secure, remote access network with over 14,000 global access points in 150 countries. The company stated that iPass users benefit from a single service source with a consistent user interface for all their access needs including dial-up, ISDN, Personal Handy Phone System (PHS), and wireless and wired broadband connections.

Wayport provides high-speed wireless access at over 420 locations, primarily in airports, conference rooms, and hotels. This includes 802.11b access at gates and terminals plus wired access in roughly 100,000 hotel rooms. iPass has agreed to distribute Wayport access directly, via its 700 ISP partners and via 70 value-added reseller (VAR) partners, as an integrated part of the iPass Global Broadband Roaming service.

The iPass Global Broadband Roaming service contains components necessary for a secure, uniform connection including VPN and personal firewall software integration and user authentication.

The combination of the two services is designed to offer highly mobile customers a seamless roaming experience from almost anywhere in the world. Wayport benefits from iPass’ global customer network and distribution channels and iPass can now offer service in locations like Marriott, Westin, Radisson, Doubletree, Hilton, Sheraton, Sonesta, Wyndham, Four Seasons, MeriStar, and other hotels and resorts throughout the U.S., as well as in four major airports.
