MS Server Admin Pack Includes Wi-Fi

Delayed by a over a year to get the security just right, Microsoft’s Windows Server 2003 finally arrived last month. Now the ancillary packages are trickling out and among the first is the Windows Server 2003 Mobile Admin Pack (MAP), a wireless control set for managing your 2003-based server or servers remotely.

The MAP will include a Dell Axim X5 Pocket PC unit running on a 300Mhz Intel XScale processor, Sonic Mobility’s 2.8 Microsoft Mobile Admin Pack (featuring the sonicadmin remote administration software with SSH and Telnet), and a D-Link Air Wireless 2.4 GHz CompactFlash Adapter (model DCF-660W). The pack includes licenses to control up to two Windows servers and a one year maintenance agreement.

The MAP a promotional bundle available only to qualified customers — medium business customers in the United States who bought Windows Server 2003 with a volume of at least 25 qualifying CALs (Client Access License). — for $159 including the Pocket PC, D-Link card, and sonicadmin software, a value of $962 according to Sonic Mobility. Only the first 1000 participants will get the pack at this price; Microsoft will be mailing out purchasing information to 50,000 businesses in mid-June.
