SMC Will Ship 802.11a CardBus and Access Point

SMC Networks today announced the upcoming availability of its 802.11a products, including a Wireless Access Point and a Wireless CardBus Adapter. SMC expects the products to be available in December via direct marketers, e-commerce sites, and other partners.

SMC’s 802.11a products are targeted towards the SOHO and SMB markets and are backed by a lifetime limited warranty and 24/7 tech support.

The EZ Connect 802.11a Access Point features Plug-and-Play configuration and a Web-based management interface. The SMC solutions offer transmission speeds up to the standard IEEE 802.11a spec at 54 Mbps and up to 72 Mbps in ‘Turbo Mode.’ The Access Point supports up to 64 simultaneous wireless clients, according to SMC. It features 64/128/152-bit WEP encryption and MAC address filtering.

The Wireless Cardbus Adapter connects to the client device and offers data transfer speeds up to 72 Mbps with automatic step-up/down to 6/9/12/18/24/36/48/54 and 72 Mbps.

Estimated street price for the Wireless Access Point is $365 and the Wireless CardBus Adapter is $145. More information can be found at the SMC Networks Web site.
