Intersil Corporation, developer of silicon solutions for the WLAN market, today announced that its PRISM technology has been incorporated into two new NetVision wireless telephony devices from device maker Symbol Technologies. The PRISM chipset technology is Intersil’s Wi-Fi certified, integrated solution for 802.11 architectures.

The NetVision Phone from Symbol is designed to deliver wireless voice and data by combining Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and Wi-Fi (802.11b) technology. The phone is available in two primary configurations.

The NetVision Phone is an 802.11b wireless IP unit and the NetVision DataPhone is a 802.11b wireless IP unit and Web client with built in bar code scanner. The products enable voice and data communications over the Symbol Spectrum24 High Data Rate wireless LAN and other select 802.11b wireless data networks. Each unit employs telephony based on the ITU standard H.323 and supports Quality of Service (QoS) and voice prioritization when used on the Spectrum24 network.

The devices are designed to support gateways from Cisco Systems, Ericsson, Nortel, Mitel and Dialogic. More information about the Symbol devices is available at the company’s Web site.
