Experts Warn iTunes Flaw Puts Windows at Risk

If the direst of warnings are to be believed, some 40 Windows applications could be in danger thanks to a flaw in Apple’s iTunes for Windows.

The flaw, which Apple claims to have patched months ago, leaves the Windows shell and numerous other applications vulnerable to an attack, security researchers are warning. The Slovenian security-research firm Acros Security issued an advisory about the flaw, a warning echoed by Rapid7 Chief Security Officer HD Moore, though both are keeping details close to their vest to prevent exploits in the wild. eSecurity Planet takes a look.

A critical bug in iTunes for Windows has already been patched, but it may turn out many more Windows applications are at risk, according to a leading security expert.

The bug was initially identified by Slovenian bug sleuthing firm Acros Security, which said in a security advisory issued Wednesday that it had already notified Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL).
