Microsoft Beta Testing Revamped Security Tools

Microsoft has begun work updating two of its venerable security products: the enterprise-oriented Forefront Endpoint Protection (FEP) and Security Essentials, a free offering gear for consumers and small businesses.

Microsoft said that it has begun beta tests of updates to both FEP and Security Essentials, trying out a host of new features, including tools to combat zero-day attacks and a new antivirus engine. eSecurity Planet takes a look.


Microsoft has begun beta testing updates to two of its leading security products, Forefront Endpoint Protection (FEP) 2010 for enterprise security and the free Security Essentials for consumers and small businesses.

Details of the new versions — which sport a number of enhancements, such as FEP’s new management capabilities for enterprise administrators — came via postings to two separate Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) blogs on Tuesday.
