Infoseek, home of the GO Network, and e-commerce site mySimon signed an agreement with Active Research to offer private
label versions of the latter’s Active Buyer’s Guide.
The buyers guide helps Web shoppers
decide what product is individually right for them in more than 50
categories.
GO Network is leveraging Active Buyer’s Guide’s 50 product categories to
improve traffic and e-commerce opportunities across its network, in
preparation for the 1999 holiday shopping season.
Guide categories include consumer electronics, household appliances, office
products, computer products and sporting equipment. Upon completing the GO
Network branded version of Active Buyer’s Guide, shoppers are linked to GO
Shopping merchants to complete their purchases.
“Offering consumers an easy-to-use service to research product options arms
them with valuable information that facilitates their successful use of GO
shopping,” said BD Goel, senior vice president and general manager of
commerce at Infoseek.
mySimon, which enables consumers to shop more than 1,300 online merchants,
is using Active Buyer’s Guide to extend its comparison shopping experience
across individual product features and specifications. The Guide helps
shoppers determine what specific make or model is right for them, before
helping them locate where it is available for sale on the Web.
MySimon will be launching all 50 of the Guide’s categories as branded
services over the coming months. In return, Active Research is top-listing
mySimon as the price bot of choice on its www.activebuyersguide.com showcase
site.
Active Buyer’s Guide employs adaptive agent technology that compares each
user’s preference profile to a comprehensive set of available product
choices. A list of unbiased recommendations is then returned and scored
according to how well it reflects the individual’s values.
Users can sort the list by feature, see product images, compare choices side by side and save
their results. They are then linked back in-context to the host site’s
content, such as reviews, or directly to merchants’ shopping carts.
