Big Entertainment signed an agreement with Gannett’s USA TODAY Information Network to be the
exclusive e-commerce studio store on the newspaper’s Web site.
The bige.com studio store, which is
scheduled to debut this
Thanksgiving, will be selling movie licensed merchandise as well as other
popular culture items. Financial arrangements were not disclosed. Discussions
with other online media sites and search engines are currently under way, Big
said.
Bige.com becomes a premier vendor on the usatoday.com site, which attracts 6 million
individual users each month. Bige.com will appear on usatoday.com’s front page
as well as the front pages for the Movies, Entertainment and Life sections.
Gannett is a 10% shareholder in Big Entertainment.
“Bige.com’s future online growth is targeted towards creating the leading e-
commerce studio store much the same way amazon.com is the leader in online
book retailing,” said Mitchell Rubenstein, CEO of Big Entertainment.
“Today’s announcement is indicative of Big Entertainment’s commitment to. .
. aggressively grow its online e-commerce business.”
Big Entertainment was founded by Mitchell Rubenstein and Laurie Silvers, the
creators of the Sci-Fi Channel national cable TV network that they sold to
USA Networks. Big Entertainment is a diversified media company that owns and
licenses intellectual properties created for Big by best selling authors and
celebrities such as Leonard Nimoy and Mickey Spillane.
