HP and Open Market to Integrate E-commerce Services

Hewlett-Packard Co. and Open Market Inc. signed
a joint technology agreement to certify Open Market’s Transact Internet-
commerce enterprise application to work with HP’s MC/ServiceGuard technology.

Transact’s certification with MC/ServiceGuard provides “failover protection”
to ensure
that the Transact application remains available even when systems fail, the
companies said. Open Market is a member of HP’s Domain Commerce alliance
program.

Running the Transact application on systems configured with MC/ServiceGuard
offers e-businesses a solution on the HP 9000 Enterprise Server platform. The
e-commerce package allows e-businesses to reduce downtime for online retail
sites and backend order-processing systems.

Open Market’s Transact product provides a set of end-to-end electronic-
commerce services including online customer automation and authorization;
online order and payment processing; online order tracking and status; and
online customer service. Coupling MC/ServiceGuard with Transact in a cluster
of HP 9000 Enterprise Server systems allows customers to complete their e-
commerce transactions, even during
unplanned downtime.

“Open Market is a key e-commerce player, and we are pleased they have selected
HP as a solutions partner,” said Nigel Ball, general manager for HP’s Internet
and Systems Application Division. “Combining our solutions will provide
customers with a mission-critical configuration, a prerequisite for moving
business online.”
