Global Internet logistics solutions company The Descartes Systems Group Inc. (NASDAQ:
DSGX) said that LaserShip.com, an online network of
independent, same-day delivery companies in the U.S., has licensed Descartes’
DeliveryNet solution.
The transportation and logistics solution enables the distribution of
e-commerce purchases to businesses and consumers. Financial arrangements were
not disclosed.
LaserShip.com has developed the technology to link e-commerce Web sites to a
delivery network consisting of more than 225 courier companies in more than
80 metropolitan areas.
The company will use Descartes’ routing and scheduling
optimization solution to
provide optimized routing capabilities to couriers within the LaserShip.com
delivery network.
“We have created a Web-enabled network of regional couriers focused on
business-to-business same-day deliveries to meet the demands of online buyers
who expect immediate delivery of their e-commerce purchases,” said Blake
Averill, president of LaserShip.com.
“We are using Descartes’ routing and
scheduling solution to optimize delivery capabilities for members of our
network.”
Descartes’ routing and scheduling solutions are part of Descartes’
DeliveryNet solution for transportation and logistics. The complete solution
for transportation and
logistics combines street-level route optimization, supplier visibility,
Web-based customer self-scheduling, mobile applications and wireless
technology.
LaserShip.com was founded in November 1999 by Blake Averill, co-owner of
Laser Courier Inc., an East Coast delivery service, as a vendor-neutral
digital network for the same-day delivery industry.
