Communications networking company Lucent Technologies has selected
the Ariba B2B Commerce Platform as a solution to achieve supply chain
efficiencies with its suppliers via the Internet.
Lucent signed an 18-month licensing agreement with Ariba Inc. and will use the
Ariba Buyer solution as one of a variety of measures aimed at improving the
management of its purchasing activities for goods and services worldwide.
Financial specifics were not disclosed.
The Ariba Buyer solution will provide Lucent employees with a Web-based
system to order non-manufacturing related goods and services worldwide, such
as office
supplies and business consulting services.
Lucent said Ariba Buyer is expected to enable the company to electronically
aggregate corporate purchasing from each employee’s desktop and direct
spending to preferred suppliers and B2B marketplaces, resulting in volume
pricing discounts.
“The customization and scalability of the Ariba platform made the Ariba Buyer
solution a logical choice for furthering our e-commerce supply chain
initiatives,” said Jose Mejia, chief supply officer for Lucent Technologies.
The Ariba B2B Commerce Platform integrates with the open Ariba Commerce
Services
Network, including electronic payments, logistics, supplier enablement and
content services, streamlined transaction routing services and information
and analysis services.
