MP3.com, Inc. Thursday announced that the company has reached the milestone of 500,000 songs and audio files uploaded. The song “Self-Respect” by Buckley V. Valeo was the 500,000th song uploaded on the site and can be accessed at www.mp3.com/bvv.

“This is truly an historic moment for our company and for the digital music space as a whole,” commented Michael Robertson, chairman and chief executive officer of MP3.com.

“The demand by digital artists and labels to use the Net to market and create revenue from music continues to astonish us. It’s been a constant challenge building the necessary storage, royalty tracking, security, network and caching infrastructure to manage and deliver digital music content on such a global scale.”

“The music content on our site has doubled in just over eight months, a remarkable growth rate,” Robertson continued. “We appreciate those artists and labels who have entrusted MP3.com as part of their digital presence and we are committed to constantly improving our offerings to them.”

For example, Valeo, an alternative digital artist, has a number of songs available for listening on MP3.com. Like all artists who post music on MP3.com, Valeo is eligible for the company’s $1,000,000 per month Payback for Playback program, which pays artists based on the number of free promotional songs which are listened to by MP3.com users. Musicians interested in joining the MP3.com artist community can register free of charge at www.mp3.com/newartist.
