RealNetworks Inc. and Macromedia Inc. Tuesday teamed for the development of media-driven e-commerce through the integration of Macromedia
Flash Player technology and RealSystem.
The combined technology offering will
enable broadcasters to deliver an e-commerce experience with full-screen,
broadband content and interactive advertising capabilities.
The OS independent, cross-browser architecture of RealSystem coupled with the
interactive applications made possible with Macromedia Flash 4 offers new
capabilities such as rich-media forms support within RealSystem.
For example,
consumers who currently shop directly from within the RealPlayer can now take
advantage of interactive text and graphics. The streaming media solution
provides online retailers the opportunity to increase their Web site’s
“stickiness” with branded rich media content.
“By joining the over 300,000 Macromedia Flash developers with the hundreds of thousands of RealSystem authors, we are driving the e-commerce industry forward and anticipate a whole new class of e-commerce
enabled, rich media content,” said Jeff Pancottine, senior vice president, Media Systems,
RealNetworks Inc .
The two companies also announced the formation of an initiative directed at
Internet retailers and interactive agencies to provide benchmarks, deployment
guides, and training resources to assist in the development of e-commerce
applications based on the combined RealSystem and Macromedia Flash 4
technology.
