register.com, Concentric Target New Domain Dwellers

Domain name registrar register.com Tuesday teamed with Concentric Network Corp. in a co-marketing agreement designed to appeal to newly registered domain name holders.

Concentric will invest $5 million in register.com, and the two will jointly market applications for building a customized Web site and e-commerce storefronts.

Once registrants complete their domain name registration with register.com, Concentric will alternately be featured as one of the Web hosting providers recommended to them, allowing registrants to begin immediately using their newly acquired domain, the companies said. Users will have access to the ConcentricHost suite of Web design, hosting and e-commerce services.

“We tailored our Web hosting and e-commerce services to address each step in the path to conducting business on the Web,” said Henry R. Nothhaft, chairman, president and CEO of Concentric Network.

“By cross promoting our services on the register.com site, we have the chance to reach potential
customers who have taken the first step — domain name registration — toward leveraging the power of the Internet. Similarly, register.com will expand their potential customer base by providing Concentric’s audience with an easy way to register a domain name on the Internet, directly from Concentric’s Web Solutions site.”

Register.com has been in the news recently as one of the first registrars to be chosen as a successor when Network Solutions Inc.’s domain name registration contract ends next year.

In late April, the Internet Corp. for Assigned Names and Numbers named register.com as well as America Online Inc., The Internet Council of Registrars, France Telecom/Oleane, Melbourne IT, and register.com to participate in an initial test phase of the new competitive shared registry system.
