Web healthcare company drkoop.com Inc. signed a $30 million
alliance and placement deal with SelfCare.com, a health and wellness
e-commerce site for women and their families.
The alliance will make available SelfCare’s products to drkoop.com visitors.
SelfCare.com will be the premier e-commerce company featured throughout the
drkoop.com Network, including its more than 300 healthcare system affiliates
and 18 local television station partners.
The agreement also gives SelfCare.com a license to feature the content and
interactive health tools from drkoop.com on its site. The two companies also
plan co-promotional marketing activities throughout the year.
The alliance, valued at $30 million over three years, also gives drkoop.com
the potential for additional revenue from e-commerce transactions.
“This furthers both companies’ goals of integrating product solutions with
comprehensive health and wellness resources online,” said Donald Hackett,
president and
chief executive officer of drkoop.com.
“We’re making important strides in our e-commerce
development by giving our users access to the wide array of high-quality
products offered by SelfCare.com.”
The deal with SelfCare.com also includes targeted merchandising of products
on the drkoop.com site, providing product purchase opportunities to users
based on the content being viewed.
SelfCare.com, launched last September, is an e-commerce site for women and
their families that provides an assortment of traditional and alternative
health and wellness products — from allergy-free bedding and blood pressure
monitors to soy milk makers and yoga mats.
