Web hosting firm SimpleNet Thursday began offering its Web hosting customers a free, entry-level electronic commerce solution.

Dubbed SimpleShop, the tool serves as an electronic commerce launching pad, allowing small businesses and entrepreneurs to sell products or services online.

“Our customers are now able to develop and operate their own e-commerce sites without investing the time and money they might expect,” said Robert Bingham, SimpleNet’s president and chief executive officer.

“We are eliminating the barriers that typically preclude an electronic commerce solution.”

Establishing a storefront using SimpleShop requires no programming ability. Using a custom-built application, users can easily design and manage e-commerce sites and create a catalog with up to 10 products.

SimpleShop users are also able to accept credit cards, configure tax and shipping costs and view both new and archived orders.

For companies needing a more advanced solution, SimpleNet is offering Commerce Made Simple, which combines multiple e-commerce components with the ability to set up a catalog with an unlimited number of items.

CMS includes a SimpleNet domain Web account, five e-mail accounts, the Miva Merchant storefront and catalog system and a VeriSign Secure Server Key. The setup fee is $399 and the monthly service charge is $49.
