SPS Commerce Wins Walgreen Business

Drugstore chain Walgreen Co. contracted with business-to-business e-commerce
solutions provider SPS Commerce to assist in
electronically automating vendors’ transactions for both its warehouse and
direct store delivery trading community.

Walgreen Co., the nation’s largest retail drugstore chain with nearly 3,000
stores, has a supply chain with more than 2,000 trading partners.

The company expects to open 450 new stores nationwide in the year 2000, and
recently launched its Internet pharmacy.

Walgreen Co. will use SPS Commerce to cut costs by streamlining its supply
chain. SPS Commerce’s transaction processing services will handle a variety
of transaction sets including price/sales catalog, invoices, purchase orders,
PO acknowledgments, advance ship notices and bar codes, automating 100% of
its supply chain.

Financial details of the contract were not disclosed. Walgreen joins Sears
Roebuck &
Company, Sherwin Williams, Jo-Ann Stores and Fingerhut among the
retailers using the services of SPS Commerce.

The SPS Commerce Trading Partner Enablement Program works with each
individual vendor’s capabilities and resources to achieve compliance with a
merchant. This method allows each vendor the freedom to retain their current
business processes, while still enabling them to trade electronically.
