Stamps.com Sticks to B2B Market

Mar 14, 2000

Online postage firm Stamps.com Inc.
Tuesday became the latest company to expand into the business-to-business
space by restructuring to provide Internet mailing and shipping services to
large corporations and e-commerce companies.

Stamps.com (STMP)
will target its B2B services toward enterprise, e-commerce and small
business market segments. The company’s enterprise unit will offer companies
with more than 100 employees an Internet-based, multi-carrier mailing and
shipping service.

For e-commerce firms, Stamps.com will provide mailing and shipping services
available at the conclusion of any transaction. Current customers include
auction sites eBay Inc. (EBAY)
and AuctionRover.com, with more
e-tailers expected to be announced in the future.

Stamps.com’s traditional consumer business is now targeted specifically
toward small businesses and individuals. This division will continue to
offer an Internet-based solution for printing and shipping U.S. Postal
Service-approved postage to companies with less than 100 employees, the
company said.

The company’s partnerships with the U.S.
Postal Service
and delivery firm UPS
(UPS)
will help to leverage its B2B services, said John Payne, chairman and chief
executive officer of Stamps.com. He added stepping into the B2B sector
is a natural progression for the company.

“This new organization recognizes the importance of enterprise and
e-commerce sales efforts within Stamps.com in recent
months,” said Payne. “With the addition of these two business units, we are
aligned to deal with our continued explosive growth in the enterprise and
e-commerce market segments.”

In addition to the restructuring, Stamps.com Tuesday finalized its $300
million acquisition of iShip, which was announced in October. iShip provides
shipping services for corporate customers, and its product line has been
integrated within Stamps.com’s offerings.
