Adaptec Demonstrates iSCSI Interoperability with Win2K

Adaptec today demonstrated iSCSI interoperability with Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server operating system in an IP Storage environment. The demonstration at this week’s Storage Networking World (SNW) conference shows how it is possible to combine Windows 2000-based servers with storage using iSCSI to create simple, affordable SAN solutions. The demonstration also highlights the interoperability of Adaptec’s iSCSI technology with the Microsoft Windows platform.

“Adaptec’s demonstrating its iSCSI HBA on the Windows platform is an illustration of Microsoft’s continued commitment to enabling highly interoperable storage solutions for our customers,” said Zane Adam, director of product management and marketing, Enterprise Storage Division at Microsoft Corp.

“We view Microsoft’s Windows server platform as a key enabler for broader adoption of iSCSI,” commented Ram Jayam, vice president and general manager of Adaptec’s Storage Networking Group. “We are delighted to work with Microsoft to ensure the success of this endeavor.”

The demonstration features multiple Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise Edition servers running Windows 2000 Advanced Server. The servers include Adaptec’s iSCSI adapters and are connected via a storage router and accessible through a standard Gigabit Ethernet switch. According to Adaptec, iSCSI-based solutions provide a robust storage infrastructure option for SQL Server deployments such as order fulfillment for e-commerce, enhanced web services, CRM and data mining.

Adaptec’s storage networking products include a family of IP Storage ASICs and adapters with protocol acceleration for iSCSI and TCP/IP connectivity as well as the industry’s first iSCSI HBA. Adaptec’s IP Storage technology is currently being designed into products from several leading OEMs.
