Adaptec, Inc. today announced that it has teamed with Hewlett-Packard Company to accelerate the adoption of storage networking solutions based on industry standard Internet protocols.

iSCSI storage capitalizes on existing Ethernet infrastructure, IT staff skills and expertise to build SANs. The companies say that the solutions will include Adaptec’s AEA-7111C iSCSI host bus adapter, HP switches, tape libraries, disk arrays and HP OpenView management software.

Both Adaptec and HP are voting members of the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA), are leading iSCSI interoperability and deployment efforts within the iSCSI Group of SNIA and are on the governing board of the SNIA IP Storage Forum. Adaptec and HP are active participants within the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) to develop the iSCSI standard, and are working closely with other vendors, including Cisco, IBM and Nishan Systems, on the standard, which is expected to be ratified by the end of this year.
