Adaptec, Inc. today introduced the DuraStor family of entry-level external storage subsystems targeted at mid-sized companies with scalable storage requirements.

The first solution in the DuraStor family is a 3U SCSI external RAID subsystem. Called the Adaptec DuraStor 6220SS, it combines a 1U RAID appliance and a 2U storage enclosure with 12 drive bays. For additional flexibility, resellers can select from pre-approved disk drives that are openly available on the market.

Upgraded, three-year service programs are also available. Resellers are are provided with training and demand generation programs.

For greater scalability and expandability, two additional storage enclosures can be added to the subsystem for a total of 36 drives, giving users nearly 2.7 terabytes of storage in a compact 7U rackspace. Data management is provided by Adaptec’s Storage Manager Pro for the Windows NT/2000 as well as Adaptec Disk Array Administrator for UNIX operating environments.

The DuraStor 6220SS SCSI external RAID subsystem will ship to selected distributors and resellers in the United States within 30 days at an MSRP beginning at $7,999. Priced separately the MSRP for the DuraStor 312R storage enclosure is $3,499. Adaptec said a Fibre Channel subsystem will ship in November 2001 and will be priced separately.
