BakBone’s Online Backup for MS SQL & Exchange Servers

Jul 31, 2001

BakBone Software(TM), Inc., a provider of storage management software solutions, today announced automated data protection for users of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server with the introduction of application-specific NetVault(TM) modules.

“We initially chose NetVault because of its ability to back up information stored on multiple platforms,” said Mark Hagler, Manager of Technical Operations at Ahaza Systems, a Seattle-based infrastructure company focused on building next-generation switching and routing solutions. “NetVault enables us to manage a hands-off backup operation. Our use of NetVault’s APM for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server will automate that process even further, helping us maximize our investment and reduce the total cost of safeguarding our data.”

The new APMs for Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server are the latest in NetVault’s comprehensive line of more than 230 add-on modules. They cover all major database, data warehouse, e-mail and electronic resource planning applications across all major operating system platforms, including Windows NT/2000, multiple Linux flavors, and all popular versions of UNIX, including the only solution available for SCO UnixWare and MP-RAS.

According to BackBone, special features in the NetVault APM for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server include:

    -- Point-and-click drilldown to individual storage groups and
        mailbox stores;

    -- Restoration of a single storage group or database, while other
        storage groups remain online and accessible;

    --  Parallel backup of storage groups for increased performance;
        and

    --  Transaction log backup/restore.
Special features for the NetVault APM for Microsoft SQL Server 2000 include:

    -- Support for Microsoft SQL Server 2000's snapshot backup
        option, performing data backup/restore operations within
        seconds, with little or no impact on server cycles;

    -- Support of Microsoft's Virtual Device Interface (VDI),
        enabling users to conduct high-performance full, differential
        and transaction log backups;

    -- Table-level backup and restore (available for Microsoft SQL
        Server v6.5); and

    -- The ability to quickly relocate data to standby servers, in
        case of server downtime/failure.

Pricing for NetVault’s APMs for Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server begins at $995.
