Hitachi Ltd.’s Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) and McData Corp.
announced today what they called a “major storage networking deal” with the Norwegian gaming company, Norsk Tipping.
The storage area network (SAN) solution from HDS and McData will enable Norsk Tipping to consolidate its data in a single storage pool, which will greatly increase its commercial flexibility and ease its management, officials said.
The solution is based on a combination of Hitachi’s Freedom Storage and McData’s 6000 Series Galaxy-Class Director, and has been designed to enable Norsk Tipping, a company with an annual turnover of more than Euro 1 billion) to offer its gaming services from the industry’s most reliable platform.
The architecture is based on the Hitachi Freedom Storage Lightning 9960 with a McData 6000 Series: ED-6064 Director at the core. The SAN solution allows Norsk Tipping to consolidate the storage required for its lotteries into a single, easy to manage infrastructure.
An extension of the partnership agreement between Hitachi Data Systems and McData made this deal possible. Hitachi’s Freedom Data Networks can now be offered with McData’s full family of core-to-edge enterprise SAN products, including its 3000 Series: 16 and 32 port Fabric Switches and its 6000 Series Galaxy-Class 64 port Director. This allows customers to create storage solutions that are designed for their specific enterprise needs, officials said.
