Fibre Channel host bus adapters (HBAs) vendor JNI(R) Corporation today announced Hitachi Data Systems endorses JNI DriverSuite(TM) technology and has qualified JNI FibreStar(R) Fibre Channel HBAs incorporating this technology for use with Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) storage subsystems connected to Solaris-based servers.

“Our Freedom Storage products are designed to provide open solutions for enterprise-level, multivendor, multi-operating system storage networks,” said Ron Gervenack, executive vice president and general manager, Enterprise Products & Solutions, Hitachi Data Systems. “JNI brings a very compelling technology to the storage marketplace. Teaming with JNI, HDS is leveraging this technology to accelerate multiplatform qualification and support.”

The Emerald(TM)-based FibreStar FCE-6410 PCI HBA has been qualified to connect HDS Freedom Storage Products to servers from Sun Microsystems running the Solaris operating system. This covers the Hitachi Freedom Storage(R) 5800, 7700E and 9000 series products. Qualifying HBAs from the same manufacturer on different platforms is becoming more important as customers deploy storage networks in an open systems environment.

JNI’s Unix DriverSuite and PC DriverSuite are two sets of drivers sharing a common code base that support the leading operating systems found in Unix and PC server environments. HDS continues to qualify additional JNI HBAs for other operating systems — such as Windows NT and 2000, AIX, Linux and NetWare — for Fibre Channel attachment of Freedom Storage(TM) products to heterogeneous server environments.
