Brocade Communications Systems announced
that the Brocade SilkWorm 3800 2 Gigabit/second (Gbit/sec) 16-port Enterprise Fabric Switch will be sold by Hewlett-Packard as the HP Surestore FC 16B. HP already offers the SilkWorm 6400, 2800, and 2400. SilkWorm fabric switches allow companies to connect servers with storage devices through a storage area network (SAN).

“This new fabric switch allows our customers to deploy new 2Gbit/sec SAN solutions and seamlessly integrate them with their existing 1Gbit/sec Fibre Channel infrastructure,” said Don Kleinschnitz, General Manager of HP’s Scalable Network Solutions Division. “Our relationship with Brocade continues to deliver products and solutions that support HP’s Federated Storage Area Management strategy, all easily managed from the HP OpenView software suite. HP OpenView Storage Area Manager will support discovery and management of these new 2Gbit/sec switches on day one of our offering.”

According to Brocade, the SilkWorm 3800 Enterprise Fabric Switch is the first in a family of 2 Gbit/sec products from Brocade designed for enterprise storage environments. The company said the SilkWorm 3800 integrates seamlessly with the entire installed base of Brocade fabric switches.
