i-drive to Focus On Storage Infrastructure Business

i-drive today announced that it will focus exclusively on its growing software business. As a result, the company will discontinue its free storage service for individual consumers effective June 18, 2001.

i-drive will continue to support the 25 University customers that license i-drive’s storage solution in order to provide storage services to their students, faculty and staff. In addition, the i-drive University Consortium will maintain its collaborative relationship with i-drive to test ideas and applications for the i-drive product.

“i-drive will now be completely focused on selling the technology that powered the consumer site as well as strengthening key partnerships in the global communications market,” said Arif Janjua, i-drive President and CEO. “i-drive has developed a technologically superior product and we are excited to deliver it to Communication Service Providers worldwide.”

The company has referred users of its consumer service to Xdrive Technologies, which offers the Xdrive Plus subscription-based online storage service for individuals. This arrangement was made in order to provide a smooth transition to i-drive account holders who are looking for an alternate place to store their files.
