Panasonic and Matrox(R) Video Products Group today announced today that Matrox has certified the Panasonic DVD-RAM drive for use with its new RT2500(TM) realtime nonlinear editing platform for archiving and distribution of video content. The Matrox RT2500 combines realtime native DV and MPEG-2 editing with realtime 2D/3D effects and built-in support for DVD authoring and web video streaming.
According to the companies, by adding Panasonic’s DVD-RAM drive to their editing system, RT2500 users will have 9.4GB (double-sided disc) of removable, rewritable storage capacity for less than a penny per Megabyte and all of the inherent benefits of DVD-RAM technology.
“DVD-RAM is an exciting archiving and distribution format, and it’s market penetration has been growing at an incredible speed. The certification of Panasonic’s DVD-RAM drive is good news for RT2500 users,” said Tony Mattioli, Technical Marketing Manager, DVD Products, Matrox Video Products Group. “It not only provides them with substantial archiving capacity at a very low cost, it enables them to distribute high quality video and audio on a rewritable media.”
Matrox RT2500 is now available for Windows(R) 2000 and Windows Me environments. It has a suggested retail price of $999. Panasonic Industrial Company’s 4.7GB OEM DVD-RAM drive is available as an internal drive with a SCSI-2 interface (model LF-D291N) or with an ATAPI interface (model LF-D211V). The internal drive is available from Panasonic Document Imaging Company (PDIC) and has an MSRP of $549.
