MaxOptix Corp. today unveiled what it claims is the first terabyte-capacity autoloader to be priced under $5000(a). The autoloader is based on Sony’s award winning AIT Tape Drive and an AIT-1 version is priced under $3500.
“Users who have hesitated to invest in tape automation because of the cost and complexity of libraries can now easily afford the benefits of unattended backup. The 8PAC autoloader combined with MaxOptix’s engineering achievements creates a new generation of extremely affordable, compact, high-density storage automation solutions. Combined with a full three-year warranty, the 8PAC offers outstanding capacity and solid performance at an unbeatable value,” said Fred Bedard, Senior Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Service at MaxOptix.
“MaxOptix’ new 8PAC AIT autoloader offers great capacity at an affordable entry price,” said Robert Amatruda, Research Manager, Tape and Removable Storage at IDC. “Users now have a compelling alternative to DDS autoloaders.”
The 8PAC with AIT-1 or AIT-2 drives will be available early September, with SRPs of $3,495 (model 8PAC-1) and $4,995 (model 8PAC-2) respectively.
