MaxOptix Corp. today unveiled what it says is the first tape-based device to break the 250 GB/hour backup and restore benchmark. StreamIT(TM), was introduced last March with AIT tape drives and now offers HP LTO tape drives, along with a PowerStream(TM) tape RAID controller.
“The combination of HP’s LTO drive technology and our new PowerStream II tape RAID controller enables users to go where no other backup and restore solution has gone before,” said Fred Bedard, senior vice president of Sales, Marketing and Service at MaxOptix. “Four StreamIT appliances connected to a server(s) can deliver a massive 1 TB per hour with fault-tolerant capability for less than $150,000, making LTO StreamIT a winner in both price and performance. Nothing else on the market today can accomplish this at this or any price.”
According to MaxOptix, the latest version of the MaxOptix StreamIT RAID appliance features HP LTO Ultrium drives configured as a tape RAID array producing up to 250 GB per hour. It offers almost twice the performance, and with 800 GB of capacity, twice the capacity compared with the first generation AIT-based StreamIT.
The LTO StreamIT will be shown for the first time this week at HP World in Chicago.
