Maxtor Enters NAS Market

Sep 12, 2001

Maxtor(R) Corporation this week announced its entry into the enterprise network storage market with the MaxAttach(TM) NAS 6000, a scalable storage server offering capacities up to 5.7 terabytes (TB).

According to Maxtor, the Windows Powered MaxAttach NAS 6000 offers broad interoperability and establishes a platform for innovative solutions such as e-mail archiving, disk-to-disk backup, and volume aggregation. Maxtor said the system enables complete data management solutions when combined with applications from leading software companies such as Legato Systems, OTG Software and VERITAS Software.

The enterprise-ready MaxAttach NAS 6000 offers features specially designed for data center environments, backed by a comprehensive array of support services. These features include redundant hardware components for high system availability, and RAID 5 data protection and Persistent Storage Manager (PSM) snapshot capabilities for high data availability. PSM enables instant recovery of deleted or corrupted files. Operating Microsoft Windows 2000 with the Server Appliance Kit 2.0, MaxAttach systems are the only Windows Powered storage servers that utilize reliability frameworks to enhance operating system fault resiliency.

“With the combination of scalability, interoperability and on-site service support, the MaxAttach NAS 6000 extends our storage systems offerings into the enterprise market,” said Eric Kelly, president of Maxtor’s Network Systems Group. “We can now offer businesses a broad range of MaxAttach storage solutions, each based on the Windows 2000 platform, that can quickly and easily be deployed in data centers, remote offices and workgroup environments.”

The MaxAttach NAS 6000 comes standard with one-year, next business day, on-site field service. Premium field service upgrades are available including four-hour response time, extended service contracts and installation service. All MaxAttach NAS storage servers include 24 x 7 technical phone support and a three-year hardware warranty.

With a base capacity of 1.9 TB, the MaxAttach NAS 6000 pricing begins at $29,999. The NAS 6000 is scheduled for U.S. availability in October 2001 and worldwide availability in Q1 2002. It will be sold through authorized Maxtor resellers
