Maxtor Corporation has entered into a strategic OEM agreement with Network Appliance.

Maxtor said its Network Systems Group is supplying the storage subsystem modules that are being integrated into Network Appliance’s recently announced NearStore product family. NearStore systems are designed to provide backup consolidation, rapid data recovery, and online archive solutions for the enterprise.

“We are very pleased to be partnering with Network Appliance, a recognized leader in enterprise storage,” said Mike Cannon, Maxtor’s President and CEO. “We developed the storage subsystem module to meet Network Appliance’s requirements, and we are delighted with their decision to partner with us to address NearStore’s market opportunity.”

“We engaged with Maxtor because of their ability to satisfy our needs for storage capacity and density, reliability and performance,” said Ray Villeneuve, vice president of strategic marketing at Network Appliance. “Our NearStore systems provide reliable, high capacity storage for enterprise data retention and retrieval applications like backup consolidation, rapid data recovery, and online archive.”

According to Maxtor, its Network Systems Group’s network storage solutions include the MaxAttach family of storage servers, which are aimed at small businesses or workgroups to large enterprise data centers.
