QLogic Selects Banderacom for InfiniBand Silicon Partnership

Banderacom(TM), a InfiniBand(TM) semiconductor company, today announced that it is partnering with storage area networking (SAN) infrastructure provider QLogic Corporation. Banderacom will supply InfiniBand semiconductors based on its IBandit(TM) architecture to power QLogic’s forthcoming InfiniBand SAN equipment.

“From the very beginning of the InfiniBand revolution, Banderacom designed its IBandit architecture to satisfy the storage and networking industries’ high-performance demands for greater speed, reliability and efficiency,” said Les Crudele, president and CEO, Banderacom. “Partnering with QLogic, the leader in storage area networking infrastructure equipment, is a significant step toward Banderacom’s strategy of being the leading provider of InfiniBand silicon.”

Qlogic says it plans on using its SAN market experience to develop and deliver next-generation InfiniBand-based SANblade channel adapter solutions using Banderacom’s IBandit product family of InfiniBand chips. The first SANblade adapter is an InfiniBand form factor I/O module that offers connectivity to 1 and 2 Gigabit Fibre Channel SANs. Leveraging QLogic’s storage networking expertise and Banderacom’s InfiniBand silicon, this relationship brings evolutionary steps to a revolutionary InfiniBand server architecture.

“The race is on to determine the early winners and losers among companies competing to supply InfiniBand semiconductors. The winners will power the next generation of storage, networking, and computing infrastructure equipment,” said Vernon Turner, vice president at IDC Inc. “Banderacom’s IBandit product and early-to-market presence clearly puts them in a strong position to be one of the winners.”
