Seagate and StorageTek this week announced they have extended their current relationship to continue delivering solutions for both mid-range systems and future enterprise-class offerings.

As part of the ongoing relationship, StorageTek will integrate Seagate’s second-generation Cheetah X15 36LP disc drive into its mid-range disc product family. In addition, StorageTek and Seagate are currently working together to include the Cheetah X15 36LP drive in StorageTek’s 9176 disc storage system for Q3 2001 availability. Future enterprise-class StorageTek solutions using Seagate’s Cheetah X15 36LP are currently being evaluated.

“Our customers use StorageTek solutions for business-critical applications where the number of transactions per second is always being pushed, and the systems need to stay running reliably in 24 x 7 x forever environments,” said Tim Steadman, StorageTek vice president, Disk Business Unit. “These tasks are too important to use just any drive, especially where reliability is concerned. As a result, StorageTek has chosen to implement Seagate’s Cheetah X15 36LP that has the field-proven performance and reliability our customers require to ensure they get the best overall storage solutions available.”

“Seagate and StorageTek are both strongly customer-focused and drive toward excellence in product design, market delivery, and service,” said Joel Stead, Seagate senior vice president, Worldwide Sales and Marketing. “Maintaining this commitment is important, especially as the demand for storage continues to grow with both new and existing customers. Seagate looks forward to a continued, long-lasting relationship with StorageTek.”
